Today I headed to Akrotiri to collect Caitlyn for another tour. It was peak spring migration so I knew we were in for a good day. I arrived a little early so decided to check Phassouri Marsh for some crakes. No crakes were present but a Little Bittern and a Great Reed Warbler were, two fantastic migrants. Sadly I could not re-locate the species after picking up Caitlyn. The day turned out to be an excellent one, clocking 78 species. Bimaculated Lark and Black-Bellied Sandgrouse were reported in the area previous days but sadly the Bimac must have continued migration and the Sandgrouse were no-where to be seen (although I did locate one a few days later). Sites visited: Phassouri Reeds, Gravel Pits, Bishops Pool, Lady's Mile, Zakaki Marsh and Akrotiri Salt Lake. Species found: Barn Swallow House Martin Great Tit House Sparrow Spanish Sparrow Greenfinch Goldfinch Collared Dove Feral Pigeon Hooded Crow Jackdaw Magpie Turtle Dove Black Francolin Fan-Tailed Warbler Red-Backed Shrike Woodchat Shrike Glossy Ibis Blue Headed Wagtail Black Headed Wagtail Grey Headed Wagtail Citrine Wagtail Common Snipe Great Snipe Little Egret Squacco Heron Common Kestrel Quail Ferruginous Duck Curlew Wood Sandpiper Moorhen Mallard Sedge Warbler Cetti's Warbler Reed Warbler Purple Heron Whinchat Common Swift Pallid Swift Little Grebe Marsh Sandpiper Little Ringed Plover Kentish Plover Little Stint Ruff Black Tailed Godwit Common Redshank Greenshank Short-Toed Lark Tawny Pipit Northern Wheatear Shag Coot Marsh Harrier Spotted Redshank Black Winged Stilt Slender Billed Gull Black Headed Gull Yellow Legged Gull Common Sandpiper Green Sandpiper Night Heron Temminck's Stint Garganey Northern Shoveller Spurwinged Lapwing Little Tern Gull Billed Tern Curlew Sandpiper Dunlin Spoonbill Little Gull blackcap sardinian warbler crested lark chaffinch sanderling 78 Species! A very good day out birding, smiles all around. Caitlyn runs a blog about her trips out birding from all over the world. She is quite a talented writer and photographer, and for those that are interested please click "thegamblingbird" link on the right side of the page under "Site Promotion". | |
